Racial Harmony should not be taken for granted as it had not been an easy route for Singapore to be what it is today. Racial Harmony plays an important role in Singapore. This would cause injuries and deaths which will make Singapore an unstable country. This can be seen in the case of Maria Hertogh riot due to inapproriate handling of the case. The Eurasians were being targeted and this left 18 people dead and 173 others injured. Another case of race riot was on 21st July 1964 on the Prophet Mohammed's birthday. The growing racial tensions caused the celebrations to turn into a race riot. To restore order, an island-wide curfew was imposed until 2nd August 1964. This shows how vulnerable Singapore can be and it is important to promote racial harmony so that such race riots would not occur again.

Other countries would more likely to invest in Singapore if it is safe and peaceful as they need not worry about losing the money they have invested.
